Halloween is one of the most popular event . It’s also an oldest holiday that still remain until now. Millions people celebrate Haloween every year but not all of them know its origin and history. Haloween’s history and myths made the holiday more attractive and interesting.

Many people think it’s a time for fun with special costumes like person in a fairy tales or it’s time for them to celebrate the theme parties. Others think it’s a time of ghost or evil spirits that should be avoided at all costs.

Celebrating on the last day of Oct - 31st every year to honor the dead, it was called All Hallows Eve. It is in the evening before All Saits Day which is held on 1st Nov. The Catholic church honored saints on this designated day.

Learning about the original and old customs of Halloween, they found a lot of versions and different cultures view Halloween somewhat differently but traditional Halloween practices remain the same.

Halloween culture can be traced back to the Druids, a Celtic culture in Ireland, Britain and Northern Europe. Roots lay in the feast of Samhain, which was annually on October 31st to honor the dead.

Samhain means “ summer ends” or November. Sumhain was also known as a festival of harvest with a huge sacred fire, marked an old year had gone and a new year has begun. Many rituals in the celebration were developed to the superstition trend.

The Celts believed the souls of the dead roamed the streets and villages at night. Since not all spirits were thought to be friendly, gifts and treats were left out to pacify the evil and ensure next years crops would be plentiful. This custom evolved into trick-or-treating.

Hallowen in Vietnam!

Vietnam is in the international integration process in both economy and culture fields. The exotic culture is becoming more familiar and popular in Vietnam. In the past, Christmas and Halloween is known only in the Catholic community or on television or the media. But now foreign holidays exists in many corners around, specially in big city like Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh city. Many young Vietnamese people are attracted by this holiday of Western culture because it has similarities with Hungry Ghost Festival which is celebrated on fifteenth of July ( Lunnar celandar) , an occation to remember the dead people.
The way they honor the dead in Halloween is stronger with many funny activites that suitable with Vietnamese youth. That’s the reason why Halloween is more and more popular in Vietnam.
